Episode 184: Indigenous Wisdom Archetypes: The Seer and Their Peeps

Some archetypes can be cultivated. The Seer cannot — they arrive this way already, walking with their peeps, and stay that way their whole life.

Julia Carmen returns to the monthly archetype series with the Seer and their Peeps: those born already balancing the physical and the non-physical worlds, moving in a constant, ever-flowing motion that never looks for a point of reference, because in the physical realm there isn't one. "Peeps" is Julia's deliberately generic word for whatever your own tradition calls this crew — ancestors, guides, angels, four-legged and winged ones — the group each Seer comes in with and walks beside for the whole of a life.

The Seer holds their past lives the way most of us can't: fully understood, never carried. Even trauma becomes information rather than identity — "oh, that happened, and it's coded in my body because I'm human" — and Julia is plain that a Seer working through something still needs a human therapist for that; the peeps aren't a substitute. They aren't leaders and they aren't followers, and Julia describes their energy as a colorful, DNA-like spiral, unique to each person the way no two snowflakes match.

Unlike most archetypes in this series, the Seer can't be cultivated into. Julia recounts putting the question to her granddaughter Juliana directly — could this one be grown into, the way a Sage can — and getting a flat no. You either come in this way, or you don't.

Their companion is Mother Dragonfly, whose card also appears in Julia's book The Indigenous Soul: "Inside of me is your life... praise the creator that you live in this moment of life... you see, you are the mother." Julia is quick to clarify what that last line means: not literal motherhood — male or female, it's the mother within yourself, the one doing the creating.

If this isn't your own archetype, Julia says, look around. With as many Seers arriving now as she's seeing, chances are good there's a child or grandchild in your life already walking with their peeps. Trust that quiet, still voice when you feel it — that's how you'll know.
